So come one, come all, to this big ol' post on the college essay. In this post I cover topics from the basic (What is the Common App?) to the microscopic (What topics are on and off the table? How do I avoid clichés?) and everything in between. No matter who you are, you're in luck - because contained in this huge thing are as many secrets about the college essay as I could fit in a post. (Obviously this only applies to those of you currently in the first category but who will find yourself in the second in a matter of months.) Or, perhaps, you're a senior who, in a desperate bid to make up for months of procrastination, has turned to this guide looking for guidance in crafting your essay. It's probable that you're coming to this post as a rising senior, just beginning to eyeball colleges and gnawing at your fingernails.
